The Joint Ventures Fundament

June 30, 2006 Subscribe to News Feed

Setting up joint ventures is a great marketing strategy.
If you can leverage your partner's assets, and she can leverage yours, then you may be able to set up a great deal.

Of course you can write your potential partners your proposition, you can email them or even get them on the phone, but will they listen?

Many times they will not, because they receive so many offers that they can be very picky. And what's the first rule they apply when selecting a joint venture partner?
It's the same rule anyone else uses:

All things being equal, you form joint ventures with the person(s) you like most!
It's this old human behavior that sets the rules.

So, in joint ventures, the main question is: who do you know and who knows you?

Here's my personal story of a joint venture event where you can get the answers to the question above. Oh, you can click the photos to see the 'bigger picture'.

Enjoy!

The Basics for Great Joint Ventures

The JV Alert Live Event is an initiative of Kenneth McArthur of JVAlert.com. This website is a joint ventures alert system. Any member can send out an alert to all other members when they have a nice joint venture proposition. That's a great way to strike up JV deals.

That's also the basis on which joint ventures are build. There's the one side making the offer and there's the other side willing to accept and promote the offer, but what really bonds them is the old law of 'granting':
The person we're most likely to buy from or work together with ...
is the person we like most!
That is exactly why great, high ticket products always seem to be promoted by the same group of marketers. And actually that's exactly what happens, because the members of this group KNOW each other.

Many times I've seen complaints about this, but that's NOT the way to solve this problem. If you really want to promote these great products too, there's only one thing you have to do: JOIN the group!
The Joint Venture Expert Panel
Get to know who these people really are and give them a chance to get to know you.
And that's what these Live Joint Venture Events are all about.

In contrast to JVAlert.com, where you must have a great product to promote, the JV Alert Live Event is meant to promote yourself and to strike up joint ventures.

You do NOT necessarily have to network with all the 'gurus'. There are so many other opportunities between attendants, that can be even more valuable to you, because they are so understandable and completely within your reach.

And you don't want to force yourself to the way up. Just by talking to people you'll learn what interests them. Giving your opinion or maybe some help builds credibility and takes down the natural wall of distrust and suspicion.

Dawn and Michael Angier I had the pleasure of meeting Dawn and Michael Angier of SuccessNet.org back in Orlando and again here in Phila.
Dawn told me about her new site called Presentations Made Simple and she gave me an account. It's looking great, yet I still haven't explored that one myself completely. But if you're interested (and you really should!) in giving highly effective presentations, speaking publicly or any other kind of self improvement, I can give you my highest recommendation based on the conversations I had with both Dawn and Michael.

At the Monday morning network breakfast Dawn surprised me with a book written by her husband Michael. He signed it personally, using the words "Case. To a very good man". I'm proud of that, you know. That's what I've accomplished and Michael gave me recognition for that.

And there's more where this came from.
I had the pleasure of dining twice with Greg Burton from 60K Marketing and listen to his wisdom during conversations together with Holly Cotter and others. Greg really made my day when he told me he was a loyal reader of my newsletter.

And what about my oldest friend on the Net, Sid Hale. It seems I know Sid for ages, but never met him in person. Despite some serious troubles back home, Sid jumped in his car on Saturday, drove over 5 hours to join us for the network dinner and to meet me! Next morning he had to hurry back. How's that eh?

jane mark and phil basten So, many opportunities will come to you only by giving other people the chance to learn who you really are and what you stand for.
I met so many interesting people that I'm still digesting all the information that I got during this happening. Phil Basten and Jane Mark of JPE Advertising for instance, were the first to give me great feedback after I've presented a new product. Many others followed, too much to mention here.

Frank GaronAnd then, suddenly, almost at the end of the event, I met Frank Garon. Off stage, he talked about a topic that I was interested in and in the coming weeks we'll see if we can do a joint venture.
See? I NEVER expected to set up some deal with Frank, ever! Now, maybe it's going to happen. You just have to be there!

My business partner Chris has laid the foundation for another profitable joint venture with Leon Altman. Chris informed me about that right away and I could quote him, but instead let's listen to what Leo said:
"I was in the hallway on a break between presentations, when Alysan, Ken's assistant, came up to me and introduced me to a distinguished looking gentlemen who owns an online printing business based in Holland.

She said, 'I think you two can do business together. I'll leave you two to talk.'
She left and I had an interesting conversation with Chris about his business and how we can help each other.

That's how quickly and how randomly important connections happen at jvAlert. Whether it's at a buffet, over coffee, in the hallways, or in the hotel bar, connections and joint ventures are being formed that can transform businesses and lives."
I'm sure you'll get the idea now.
All I want to say is: be there, get to know others and give others the opportunity to get to know you. People like Alysan take care that everything else will follow naturally.

Of course there's another side, the 'learning' side.

During an event like the JV Alert Live Event you'll learn in two ways:
1. from the experts presentations and
2. from the informal conversations in the corridors and bar.

joel comm It depends on your experience level on how much you'll learn from the presentations, but I try to attend every one of them, because sometimes only the smallest tip will allow me to make a lot of money.

But you can learn a lot from these experts. I'm working out some deal with Ken McArthur about selling the videos that were taken and I'll get the info in a couple of weeks. I will let you know in a private message, so if you're interested, you should be a subscriber to my newsletter to receive the updates about this.

And then there are the tips, tricks, techniques and solutions you hear everyone talk about in the corridors. These are so valuable, because there are always a few among them that you haven't tried or heard of.

There is a third aspect I like to mention and this one is specifically for the JV Alert Live Events.

When meeting new people in an unknown situation, we all put up our natural human shield of caution and wariness.
It's very likely that you have experienced this too.

Willie Crawford and Case Stevens That's also the case in this event, only it vanishes with lightning speed. I guess it has something to do with the atmosphere created by Kenneth McArthur, organizer of these events.
He's like a 'monitor' who guides you seamless through all the phases of the event with a smile and a very big heart.
Holly Cotter mentioned this 'JV Alert Specific' facet during the last panel presentation and I think she's right (ah well, she almost always is ...). The atmosphere is great, everyone is willing to help each other and nothing is held back to do so.
Super event!

In conclusion let me give you some great advice.
I'll be honest with you, it's NOT cheap to attend an event like this. You have your travel and accommodation expenses and sometimes you want to buy someone a drink.

But it's very rewarding, because by attending these event you will be building on the greatest asset you have:

YOU!

So, next time join us. The next JV Alert Live Event probably will be in San Diego and another one maybe in London. I'll let you know in my newsletter (be sure you're subscribed!) and like to meet you too one day.

Wishing you success,
