I just got back from the JV Alert Live Event in Orlando.
I traveled by train to Amsterdam Airport, had to wait there for two hours before I took off for Washington Dulles (probably the Dullest Airport in the US) where I had to wait another two hours for my connecting flight to Orlando. It took me 17 hours to get there. Back home took even more, cause I had to wait over 5 hours at Washington Dullest.
Fortunately I had some company. I invited my friend Chris to join me and he said yes.
Chris is a fast guy. He has an multimedia company where he combines the Internet with television and advertising.
His market is The Netherlands and he was curious what the US market would be like. So, he came along!
Was it worth it? Well, read our experiences below.
Enjoy!

Maybe The Biggest Of All Marketing Secrets.
I have written a lot about Internet marketing strategies.
If you signed up for my newsletter you even received an article from me called "Your Most Important Marketing Strategy".
While that one still is valid and you should, no make it must, implement that strategy, it's not the most important marketing secret.
No, the most important secret in Internet marketing (or in any other business for that matter) is this:
everybody, and I mean everybody, likes to help and do business with someone (s)he knows well, someone (s)he likes and trusts.
THAT is the main reason why you should attend seminars and live events.
It's not that obvious for someone living in Europe to visit events in the US, but since the above is absolutely true, it can be very rewarding. So I decided it was time to go.

I selected the JV Alert Live Event, because I've been a member of JV Alert since the start and before that I already was a member of Affiliate Showcase. I had attended many teleseminar organized by Ken McArthur and now I thought it was time to meet in person.
Besides that, the list of speakers for the event really was great and wanted to meet them too: Frank Sousa, Jane Mark and Phil Basten, Michael T. Glaspie, Joe e. Clayton, Allyn Cutts, Carl Galetti, Joel Christopher, Willie Crawford, Holly Cotter, David Garfinkel, Bob Silber and Ramon Williamson (in order of appearance). Not bad huh?.
So, on Friday, Ken checked us in and handed over the schedule.
That schedule was very tight. The advantage of that is, that you know exactly when your favorite speakers are on, but since they were all great, I didn't want to miss one, so I sat down all day.
The disadvantage is, that speakers have to hurry to tell their full story (if they are passionate about their business, and the all are, they always tend to elaborate on a subject) and that you can't network a lot.
It took me a full two days to discover that Michael Holland, author of the famous ebook Strike It Niche, was sitting in front of me.
So, you have to find some sort of balance of attending the presentations and the networking. I talked to John Reese when he quickly hopped in. He offered a free copy of the most valuable Internet marketing publication ever created. Hm, that was quick.
I already knew the websites of all speakers, but one of the major advantages of events like this is, that's it's absolutely great to learn the person behind the websites.
And I must admit that every one of them is very helpful, in no way distant of reserved, and always interested in what you do.
That really was far beyond my expectation.
Joel Christopher managed to learn every attendant's name by head after the first day. He quickly scanned all the name tags and memorized them. Remarkable.
Also remarkable are Joel's 60 second introductions and 3 minutes JV's. He teaches you how to do that and how to profit from these quickies.
In their presentation all speakers have some sort of pitch (although Bob Silber couldn't even begin with his story because of the many questions that were fired at him). And of course it's business first, but they also are remarkably open and willing to share 'secrets'.
Meeting the speakers in person also increases your chances of striking a JV. Although they all have their own standards, they also tend to give in more and let you JV with them. Cody Moya and Joel Christopher made some participants very happy in that respect.
Willie Crawford invited me to participate in his absolute stunning Wedding Fire Sale. And he surprised me with a signed hard copy of his book "Git Off The Porch!". I read that one in the plane back home and it strikes me every time how he manages to mix personal stories and general wisdom so seamless. An absolute Must Read.
Allyn Cutts said we're definitely going to do business and I think I'm going to enjoy working with Holly Cotter.
But you can also strike some great deals with the attendees. I still have to work this out, but I found a new fulfillment partner for my CD's, a few great additions to some of my new products and a lot of great friends.
So, is it worth while?
Absolutely! Don't forget that the speakers will observe you too. If they like what they see, it's so much easier to keep in touch with them.
And that's what this huge secret is all about:
Who do you know?
Who knows you?
That's why you really should visit a great event or seminar. My friend Chris knows that. He's now anxious to get his first products out on the US market and he's planning to return.
How about you?
Respectfully,

P.S.
