The term 'free giveaway' is a bit of a pleonasm for me. Because if you 'give away' something, it sounds like a free transaction to me.
I guess, marketers using the term want to emphasize the 'free' part of a giveawy.
Nevertheless, free giveaways make great marketing strategies online.
Basically it works this way.
- The organizer or host of the ‘free giveaway’ event sets it up and invites other marketers do contribute a product.
- The organizer compiles all contributions inside the member’s area where the visitors will be redirected to after signing up for the giveaway. From there they can select the gifts of their choice.
- Contributors and hosts promote the giveaway URL to their mailing lists and visitors.
- When the visitor clicks a free gift in the members area, they will be taken to the contributor’s subscription page where they have to sign up in order to get their giveaway.
So, in giveaways the organizers and their partners are building their lists. In return, the giveaway visitors sign up for these lists to get their free gift and, hopefully, a high quality autoresponder series.
So, a giveaway can get you many free products. But therein also lies a big potential problem: information overload!
Believe me, getting every gift available will soon clutter up your hard disk. Of the two external disks I use, one is loaded with free gifts and the like (60Gb!).
The problem with information overload is that
you POSESS everything and KNOW/LEARN nothing.
So, when you sign up for a free giveaway, you'd better be very picky about the gifts you really want. They have to fit the point of the learning curve you're at and take you fast forward. First and main benefit!
Second, because you have to sign up for the contributor's ezine, you also should benefit from that. Receiving sales pitch after sales pitch isn't going to help much. Fortunately, in quality giveaway events, most contributors are wiser than that, but there are some exceptions.
Of course you can't always exactly know what you will get or how the follow up will be. If you join quality giveaways, you can always unsubscribe from an ezine if the follow up isn't what you expected.
And here's another tip that you have to pay attention to. Some contributors do NOT force you to sign up in order to get their free gift. Subscription is voluntary. They are so confident about the quality they deliver that you will end up coming back anyway. Consider signing up right away for their ezines. You may expect quality info.
And that brings us to the next benefit of a giveaway event: carefully pay attention WHAT the contributors do in order to get your email address and HOW they do it. In most cases it's quite obvious, but some use twists that you can use too.
And why shouldn't you, in a next event, become a contributor too? Building a list still is a very smart and profitable markting strategy. Learning to set yourself apart is a great lesson to become a successful contributor!
So, you can benefit tremendously from a free giveaway. The only problem is to find the good ones.
Personally, I'm very picky about them, but I've found a great one.
It's called The IM Dream Team and is, as IM indicates, about Internet Marketing. Host is Kevin Riley who I personally know and is an equivalent for quality.
This great event opens on November 15, but signing up now puts your name on the Notification List, so you will be one of the select first ones who get to know about it. I've seen some fine products inside the members area already!
