'Build your own list' has always been my favorite strategy. Lots of people got very confused recently because of nonsense reports that 'email marketing is dead' and other fairy tales.
It's NOT. You still have to build your own list, because email marketing is alive and kicking. The only problem is, that it's become more difficult to deliver the messages. That's all. But there's a solution for that too. And you can read it right here.
If you want to build your own list of valuable subscribers, you'll need to:
- think about a strategy,
- discover what's hot to ...
- create a great 'in-demand' give-away and
- do a little bit of work to put it into action.
I've done the first three parts already.
I leave it up to you to put this in action.
But you would be crazy not to do so. Building your own list doesn't come easier than this, it's free with my compliments and it's valuable.

How You Can Build Your Own List With Three Valuable Reports
The basics of building your own list actually are very simple. Here's a strategy that always works, over and over again:Find a hot topic, search for answers to all questions people ask about it and offer them in exchange for their email address.
That's how you can add valuable subscribers to build your own list. It may require an extra autoresponder follow series, but the advantage of that is that you always know the topic they were so interested in that they signed up. Thus you can closely match future offers.
So, what topics are hot then and how do you find them?
That's easy. Just browse the most popular forums and you'll quickly find out what's cooking. Also, you can go to sites like Amazon and Ebay to discover the most popular topics.
Hmmmmm? .. What's that? .. Examples?
Well, how about Social Networking to start with?
MySpace and similar sites are in the top of the Alexa rankings. Despite the fact that millions of people are a member already, still millions are hesitating to join, because they don't know exactly what it is. Or what kind of site to join. It must fit your passion and interests.
Recently I joined MyWarriorNetwork, a very popular marketing social site, populated with lots of Warrior Forum members. Since both you and I are in this business, I can wholeheartedly encourage you to join, but it isn't for everyone.
People just want to learn more about it before they take the first step.
And what about PC Security? Adware, spyware, viruses, spam and trojans are all popular topics, particularly because so many people become victim of such malicious attacks.
These are exactly the kind of people that would sign up in an eyewink, because the want solutions to their problems.
What if you could offer such a solution? Huh?
Still going strong is the topic of affiliate marketing. That's the main reason why the Project X was so successful (and still is). It offers detailed advanced advice to increase your commission checks almost over night and isn't learning to earn more money a great motivator to sign up for a newsletter?
Ok, now that we have our hot topics to build your own list, we can create some nice reports of them.
You do a little research here and there, read the answers on forums, study all the quality blogs and browse through articles. What you want to find are the answers to the most urgent questions. You then weave these answers in your description of how things work and there you are. A great report has been created.
Of course it helps if you know something about the topic and it certainly helps if it's your hobby or passion. But that isn't strictly necessary as long as the topic is closely related to something else that has your highest attention.
It becomes more difficult to write a great report if it has to deal with matters you do not know a thing about. That's why I always advice future website owners to stick to something they know or have access to a great resource.
Ok, what's next?
Now we have everything we need to start building our own list.
All we need to do is put things in place. Here's how.
- Write an enticing capture page.
All it takes to do that is a great headline, a short description of the problem and some bullet questions. All of this can be found inside the reports.
And a sign up form will complete the short capture page. - Set up your autoresponder series. Start with a few short messages to assure that the download link worked, to thank your subscriber and to brand your name or that of your newsletter.
And PLEASE, do NOT use a free autoresponder service, but start immediately with a professional one.
You can use Getresponse or Email Aces, but I prefer Aweber.
Not that they have a so much better system, but their delivery rates are the highest in the industry. That means, that your autoresponder and email messages get delivered. And that's exactly the core of this list building method, isn't it?
Keep your email messages short and refer your readers to a webpage. All it takes is an enticing subject line and one great paragraph that get them to click. Simple!
